Bible Notes Online - Psalms 15 - ESV
Commentary

The citizen of Zion; a contrast to the previous descriptions of the wicked.

In 2 Sam 6, as David brought the ark into Jerusalem, Uzza was killed because he touched the ark, "By those who come near me, I must be regarded as holy" (Lev 10.3).

v1: Who can abide in God's sanctuary, His holy hill? (See note at Ps 24) The man described in Psalm 14 certainly cannot. The Lord is looking for those who are holy in life.

v2: He walks, he does, he speaks; a whole life of righteousness; the contrast is with the man full of corruption (Ps 14).

v3: His words are a special characteristic of the godly, just as the words of the wicked reveal his heart; see also 1 Pet 2.21-23, and contrast Rom 3.13-14.

v4-5: Although he hates impurity, he has a generous spirit; he is honest with his money, and does not insist upon interest when he lends it (Ps 112.5), and he refuses a bribe.

The man who fulfils this picture can never be shaken. In John 15, abiding depends on obeying.

The picture here is of Jesus Christ, perfect in every way.
