Bible Notes Online - 2-Chronicles 5 - ESV
Commentary

v1: Solomon brought into the temple the riches that David had accumulated.

v2-3: Solomon summoned the leaders of Israel to attend the bringing of the ark into the temple. See also Num 10.4; there is a scripture pattern of the leaders coming together.

v4-6: As David had learned, the Levites carried the ark. There were vast numbers of animals sacrificed, as a sign of worship to the great God.

v7-9: The ark was placed in the Most Holy Place. Compared to the tabernacle which was designed to be mobile, the temple was permanent. The poles were visible in the temple, a reminder of the wanderings in earlier generations; the staffs indicated a journey; Gen 32.10; Ex 12.11; Num 21.18, see Mark 6.8.

In 2 Tim 4.7-8, Paul looked forward to rest from his labours.

v10: Ps 40.8; God's law in the ark, even as it was at the time of Christ; and even as it was in Christ's heart. Christ obeyed God alone; we are to add nothing to the message once delivered to the saints. At some point, the jar of manna and Aaron’s rod were also placed there; see Heb 9.4.

v11-12: The priests were sanctified, wearing white linen, leading the worship of God. White robes; Rev 4.4; picturing sanctification. Harps; Rev 15.2.

v13-14: The people were as one, making one sound in unison, having harmony, agreement in the Lord. The unity of their hearts was reflected in the unity in worship, and harmony in music. The song was of praise to God; Rev 4.11; 5.9,12.

God honoured the occasion; He came down in His glory. He interrupted the ministry; He is not limited by our time plans and schemes.
