Bible Notes Online - 2-Chronicles 4 - ESV
Commentary

v1: The bronze altar was vast, 30 x 30 feet; the same area as the Most Holy Place (3.8). The original bronze altar was 7½ x 7½ feet (Ex 27.1), which was itself large. The animals were offered on top of this altar.

v2-6: The Sea was 15 feet across and 7½ feet deep. There were no dimensions given for the laver, which it replaced (Ex 30.17-21), although presumably it was smaller.

Arithmetic note; the writer refers to the circumference being 30 cubits (45 feet). This is not exact, given the arithmetic relation of the circumference to the diameter of a circle.

The Sea was to be used for the priests to cleanse themselves. It seems likely the water poured out of the Sea in a shower.

Whilst 1 Kings emphasises Solomon's greatness in wisdom and wealth, such as the incident of the prostitutes, and the visit of the Queen of Sheba, 2 Chronicles speaks more of the construction of the temple.

v7-10: Other objects were made of gold. There were ten lampstands and ten tables, compare with one of each in the tabernacle.

v11-18: Many objects were made of bronze, which speaks of God's judgment. There weight of bronze was not determined, In 1 Chr 29.7, the leaders gave 610 tons of bronze, which was in addition to the bronze provided by David himself.

v19-22: The various gold objects; the altar of incense, tables, lampstands, and a series of other implements.
