Bible Notes Online - 1-Chronicles 3 - ESV
Commentary

v1-9: The sons of David; from 2.15. He had numerous wives. This poor example was copied by Solomon, to great cost. David did not allow his wives to damage his relationship with the Lord, while Solomon's wives turned his heart from the Lord God. These verses name 19 sons, and indicate that there were many more.

v10-16: From Solomon to Zedekiah, the kings of Judah.

v17-24: The line from the kings, continuing after the captivity in Babylon. Four generations are listed after Zerubbabel, and doubtless some were born in Judah. This is a pointer and a promise of future preservation, and ultimately to the coming of Christ.

The sons of Jehoiachin (v17) were born in Babylon, 2 Kings 24.12; 25.27-30.
