Bible Notes Online - 1-Chronicles 25 - ESV
Commentary

v1-8: David set apart musicians, from the Levites. They prophesied with instruments (2 Kings 3.15); This involved mainly proclaiming God's word, rather than foretelling the future, although that may well have happened. This emphasis is found in the Psalms, where there is more declaration of God's character, and a call to devotion, than future foretelling.

At this time, Psalm singing was not congregational. The appointed singers sang. Only later did entire congregations sing.

These men were skilful, men of clear gift and ability. They were subject to the authority of Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman, who in turn were supervised by David. David took a great personal interest in the development of worship.

Students and teachers alike were numbered in the 288 who were divided into 24 groups.

v9-31: The 24 names; 4 sons of Asaph, 6 of Jeduthun, and 14 of Heman.
