Bible Notes Online - 1-Chronicles 18 - ESV
Commentary

v1-6: Previous victories against the Philistines, 14.8-17, where repeated against other nations. The influence of Israel spread over a wide area, and the nations brought tribute to David. God gave these victories, and preserved David. v13 also.

v7-13: As well as gaining military victories, David gathered many articles from the nations, which he dedicated to the Lord. In a similar way, things taken from the Egyptians were used in building the tabernacle, see Ex 12.35-36; 25.1-7.

Christ has plundered the strong man's house, and taken the plunder for Himself. The plunder is; all believers; also described as the travail of His soul, and the spoil, Is 53.11-12; Matt 12.29. One day all the nations of the world will bring tribute to the Lord Jesus, Rev 21.24,26.

v14-17: David's leadership, see 2 Sam 8.16-18. Notice also two lines of priests, in Zadok and Ahimelech.
