Bible Notes Online - Exodus 36 - ESV
Commentary

v1: Bezalel and Oholiab had to do what God had commanded. We are never so gifted that we can ignore God's instructions. Gift brings responsibility.

v2: Moses maintained some oversight of the work, and he brought the materials given by the people to the team of craftsmen who were t actually construct the Tabernacle.

v3: The people did not just bring at one time; their giving lasted over a number of days.

v4: Those called to help with the Tabernacle left their ordinary work, to concentrate on this greater task.

v5-7: Such was the eagerness of the people that they gave more than enough for the work. They had to be restrained from giving. More often our experience is that not enough is given, and the burden falls upon a faithful few.

v8: Through to 39.31, the various items for the Tabernacle were constructed as the Lord had commanded. They made the Tabernacle itself first, and then the furnishings for inside it.

v8-13: The ten curtains, as in 26.1-6.

v13: There is a phrase repeated, "so that the Tabernacle was a unit", or "so that it might be one Tabernacle" (See v18; 26.6,11), indicating a unity of design and purpose in the Tabernacle. For us, Christ is not divided (1 Cor 1.11-13).

v14-19: The curtains of goat's hair (26.7-13), and the coverings of ram's skins dyed red and badger (sea cow) skins (26.14).

v20-30: The frames of acacia wood, and their bases (see 26.15-25).

v31-34: The bars of acacia wood passed through the rings in the frames (26.26-30).

v35-36: The veil and four pillars (26.31-32).

v37-38: The screen and five pillars (26.36-37).
