Bible Notes Online - Jeremiah 47 - ESV
Commentary

v1-6: A shorter portion, describing events to happen to the Philistine people. Although Pharaoh, king of Egypt attacked Philistia, a greater threat was that of the Babylonians, the flood from the north.

Gen 10.14 refers to the Philistines and Caphtorim, inhabitants of that region. There was an alliance between the Philistines and Tyre and Sidon, two sea-faring cities lying to the north; but this alliance also proves impotent.

The Lord God had ordered the sword of Babylon upon the ungodly nation, although there is no reference to their specific sins. See also Is 14.28-32.
