Bible Notes Online - Joshua 16 - ESV
Commentary

v1-9: The description of the area allotted to Ephraim and the half tribe of Manasseh.

v10: The Ephraimites could not dislodge the Canaanites living in Gezer. They may have justified the presence of Canaanites by using them as labourers; hey may also have pleaded Joshua's own example, with the Gibeonites. But God's commands were clear, to drive them out. The Canaanites were a bad influence by their presence in the land. We are wrong to justify or condone or tolerate sins.
